Sketchbug 0.1.2

Stabilize shaky strokes, a grid that fits the canvas, two colours on the toolbar, and a quieter header. On the desktop app and the web.

0.1.2 is out. This morning we put Sketchbug on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This build is the first real drawing update on top of that: steadier strokes, a grid that actually meets the edges, and less clutter in the header.

The web editor has the same tools. If you already have the desktop app, the update card can install 0.1.2 and restart.

Stabilize

Hands shake. Tablets jitter. Lines that should be smooth come out saw-toothed.

Stabilize is the StreamLine / Photoshop Smoothing kind of help. The stamp follows your pointer on a short string, so little wobbles get filtered and curves stay even. When you lift, the rest of the path draws out instead of stopping short.

It lives in the header, to the left of Auto-save. Click it and set an amount from 0 to 100. Off is a raw stroke. Higher numbers trail further behind and feel calmer. The setting is remembered the next time you open Sketchbug.

On a phone, look in brush settings next to size, opacity, and hardness. Same slider.

A grid that fits

The old grid used a fixed pixel size, so the last row or column often got cut off at the canvas edge.

You still pick an approximate square size in settings or the More menu. Sketchbug now chooses a column and row count so the cells meet every edge. The squares stay as close as they can to the size you asked for. Nothing hangs off.

A quieter header

Export, Share, and the grid used to sit out in the open next to Save. They now live in the … button to the right of Save.

  • Export as PNG, JPEG, or WEBP
  • Share a sketch
  • Show or hide the grid, and drag the spacing

Save, Auto-save, and Stabilize stay where you can see them. The extra stuff is one tap away.

Two colours

The toolbar now has a main colour and a secondary colour, stacked the way other drawing apps do it. Click the front swatch to paint with it. Click the back one, or press X, to swap.

Fill, shapes, and text use whichever slot is active. You can keep a dark line and a light fill ready without opening the picker every time.

Flip a selection

Select pixels or a shape, then flip it. There are mirror buttons on the selection bar: left-right and up-down. Keyboard is H and V.

Lasso selections flip with the pixels, so the outline stays on the drawing.

How to get 0.1.2

Desktop. If you already installed 0.1.1, open Sketchbug and wait for the card: “A new Sketchbug is ready.” Install downloads 0.1.2, replaces the app, and restarts. Later dismisses it until next time.

You can also grab the new build from sketchbug.art/downloads — Windows, Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel), and Linux.

Web. Refresh sketchbug.art. You do not need a new install.

Cloud sketches, local sketches, Brush Hub, Font Hub, and live sketch are the same as this morning. This update is about the stroke and the toolbar.
